Manual literacy is the path to a more empowered, joyful life.

- Georgia Pellegrini

Georgia Pellegrini is an Emmy-nominated producer, writer, and host of the PBS series Modern Pioneering, which explores craftsmanship, self-sufficiency, and life close to the land. Her work focuses on what she calls “manual literacy”—practical, hands-on skills that reconnect people to food, nature, and their own resourcefulness.

She is the author of several books, including Food Heroes, Girl Hunter, and Modern Pioneering, a cookbook centered on seasonal cooking and living more intentionally. Her writing has appeared in The Wall Street Journal and other national publications.

Pellegrini grew up on family land in upstate New York, an experience that shaped her approach to food and the outdoors. After beginning her career in finance, she trained at the French Culinary Institute and worked in Michelin-starred restaurants in New York and France before shifting her focus to storytelling, education, and media.

She is also the founder of Adventure Getaways, immersive workshops that bring participants into the field to learn skills ranging from cooking and foraging to hunting and fishing. Through her work—on screen, in print, and in person—she aims to make these experiences more accessible and relevant to modern life.

Her television and media appearances include Jimmy Kimmel Live!, Iron Chef America, The Today Show, HBO’s Real Sports with Bryant Gumbel, and NPR, among others. Prior to Modern Pioneering, she hosted Wild Food for Discovery Networks.
